HOW TO DEAL WITH DAYS WHEN YOU LACK MOTIVATION

how to stay motivated

Do you ever get those days when you just can't be bothered? I know that's not very positive but there's no denying we can't be 'on it' 24/7. I try and start each day with a purpose, set mini goals and generally very optimistic about things but sometimes I wake up and I just feel flat. No creative energy at all, no desire or motivation to do the things I should and want do to. Fear not guys, I've got your back here's how to deal while those down days.

DON'T FORCE IT

I'm so guilty of this, forcing myself to do something when my mind and heart are not set on it properly. I don't like to leave things to pile up, I like my inbox cleared and my to do list ticked off but when you're not on your A game, step back and don't force anything. You won't be happy with what you produce, so come back to it when you feel more like yourself.

TAKE A BREAK

When you know you have a full day of endless tasks, phone calls to make or emails to write. It can feel overwhelming and daunting especially when you're lacking that drive and motivation. Take some time to step back and clear your head, close all those tabs on your Internet browser, silence your phone and just take a breather. Go for a walk, take your lunch break early and clear your head. There's nothing worse when your heads all muddled and you don't know where you're at.

"The quieter you become, the more you can hear."

DO SOMETHING FOR YOURSELF

When we're hit with deadlines or have clients to attend too, it can be difficult to step away but if you can find time to do something for yourself. Whether that's making yourself a cup of tea, listening to your favourite track on Spotify or reading a few pages of your book. It's nice to just shift your focus away from other people's needs for a while.

YOU CAN'T PLEASE EVERYONE

It can be tough when we feel like we have to please everyone and respond to messages straight away but try not to put too much emphasis on trying to please everyone. There's only so much you can do in 1 day. So when you are feeling a bit flat, keep your head down and focus on one thing at a time - there's always tomorrow.

How do you deal with days when you lack motivation?

  2. This was great to read as I've had no motivation for a while now - I'll definitely give these a whirl, and might also try your idea of thinking of little goals each day! Great post sweet :) xx

  3. You're so right about taking a step back when feeling like this. Sometimes, if I'm feeling really bogged down I'll just get done what's absolutely essential and then write the rest of the day off. I'll do something nice and relaxing in the evening and by the following day I've usually got my motivation back! x

  4. Love these thoughts Hanh, that quote is particularly poignant! When I lack mojo I find it is helpful to let myself do lovely things so that I then feel happy enough to work again; I am much more productive after a fun break, every time!

  5. What a great read! I've been feeling as if I've been lacking motivation lately. My boyfriend said he saw (I think on Buzzfeed) that a hour and a half nap helps with creativity supposedly. So I've been trying that. I like taking a breather and a short walk with my dog to help with clearing my mind though! Thanks for sharing these tips!

  10. That's a lovely thing to do, I love going outside to clear my head even if the weather is awful! That's interesting about the nap, I don't think they're too good for me I always end up feeling groggy :/

    Thanks for reading Katherine :)

  11. This is exactly what I needed! I'm not particularly lacking motivation but over the last week or so everything has got a little crazy, so important to remember not to force it, and to take a break when you need it! :)

  20. Loved this post! I'm one to put pressure on myself as well, have to make more of an effort even if it's for just going away for 5 or 10 minutes and getting a bit of fresh air. Is crazy how some fresh air can change one's mood, really.

  21. Thank you Carla! Definately when I feel myself needing a break I always go outside, a quick walk really takes my mind of things and clears my head. Thanks again for featuring this post of your blog, super nice of you :)

  22. This is a fabulous post Hanh! I am starting to feel like this more and more these days. Last week, I did a I-can't-be-ar*ed day, didn't check my mail, my phone, my social media, and read my favourite blogs. By the end of the day, I felt refreshed and had a gentle to do list for the next day to ease back in slowly!

And whatever can't be done, there is always tomorrow indeed!
