Maintaining A Good Work Life Balance

We've all met those people who's always on the go, diaries are jam packed and they still have time to fit in work, socialising and the rest. I barely have enough time to eat breakfast and still manage to be late for work. Oops. 

I don't want to be one of those people who are always 'just too busy', too busy for friends and family and too busy to just relax and enjoy life. Sometimes when I have a lot on, I feel a bit anxious, I'm generally not an anxious person but as someone who enjoys the simple life I sometimes feel a bit overwhelmed. Do you ever feel that way? Here's a few things I try and do to de stress, so my work/life balance doesn't suffer.

It's OK to say no sometimes

Don't feel like you have to say yes to every invitation, event or night out. It's OK to just decline because you want to have a facial at home or lounge around in your PJs. No ones judging here! Or in my case catch up on YouTube videos and eat pizza!


I'm the first to admit I'm a lazy so and so but fitting in some kind of fitness or exercise in your daily or weekly routine is just a great all rounder. You'll feel more energetic, relieves stress and releases those all important endorphins!

Find your sanctuary

I have a no technology rule in the bedroom, no TV much to my fiancé's dismay but I try and make our room a peaceful place. No computer, laptop, or stereo. Although I like to read my Kindle in bed :) Make a relaxing space in your home to unwind, really helps too switch off from a busy day.

Switching off

I try to make a habit to leave my phone in my bag when I get home from work, sitting in front of a computer screen all day, it's nice to not look at my phone in the evening or constantly be on social media 24/7! Although I am kind of addicted to Instagram...Obviously this can count for anything, going for a run, walking the dog, baking a cake or painting your nails. Making time for simple pleasures in life will make everything else seem less like work or a chore - cos who doesn't want the good life :)

  1. I couldn't agree with you more! I am practically always running short of time no matter how early I sleep or organize everything..! I have to make of list of things which I should be doing in order to keep things running as they should without overburdening myself!


  2. I always get overwhelmed if every second of my week is filled with going somewhere, meeting someone or getting ready to do those things whether it's work, friends or family. My mother in law doesn't understand, but it's nice just to have quiet!

  4. Great advice. I totally agree with you. It's definitely a point of mine to work in a fitness routine. I feel better and accomplished. Keeping these points in mind and you will surely finish all what you need to get done.

  5. Limit your time! I like to set an exact amount of time I have to do something. For example if I'm taking some down time on the internet I'll let myself stay on for an hour until its time to shut off & do something else. Otherwise I can get side tracked & an hour turns into 2 or 3!

  8. I think we want to cram in as much as possible in our day, i think about all the things I have to do in my head and get a little panicked! Definitely trying to change that though :)

  11. i agree with the sanctuary point. its also nice to 'switch off' from technology once in a while and i try to do it for a substantial amount of time each week. usually that means with a good book. reading anything good lately?

    Do you like thrillers? Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn is really good, or for a more modern romantic read You before Me by JoJo Moyes and lastly anything by John Green - love his books!

  14. I like the 'night mode' feature on iPhone where after a time of your choosing, the iPhone won't push any notifications/calls/texts to you anymore (you only see them if you check your phone.)

    I've been a vicious cycle of being busy - not getting things done, and feeling guilty for it lately. Hopefully things wind down for you and me :)

    i've read fault in our stars b/c everyone was raving about it. it was good but not as amazing as everyone said it would be but im curious to see what else he has on offer. i'm not really a YA fiction reader though. thanks for these suggestions!

  17. I'm looking forward to the GG film coming out, hopefully it won't be a disappointment. I read John Green Paper Towns first, loved that - more than TFIOS. You just reminded me to look at downloading some more books!

  18. I was reading this post this morning and it resonates with me because I used to struggle with having a good balance between work and play. I was running my own business back then so I spent every waking hour working. No matter how much you enjoy work, it really does run you down in the end. I'd love to be able to switch off from my phone completely, even for one whole day. I've not managed to do it yet because I worry "what if my mum calls? what if something bad has happened?". I've got to train my brain to stop worrying about these things! xxx

  19. I admire anyone who runs a business from home, you never really know when to clock off and then the hours just run away with you. It's funny how over the last few years technology has brought people closer together, but at the same time it draws people's attention away when you do meet up with people. It really is difficult to switch off these days, I can't really even manage 100% whilst on holiday!

  21. I would like to think I have a good life balance. I most probably need to spend less time on my iPad/iphone as I can at times by watching tv with the BF and suddenly reach for the iphone, which isn't romantic or thoughtful.

  22. I know what you mean, it's so normal for us to spend alot of time on phones etc I really try to switch off when I can when I'm with my partner - otherwise we end up not talking to each other!
